Zach Homol – @ZachHomolPower
I’ve always had a sense of urgency in my day to day life; a feeling as if every task that was placed in front of me was a challenge to see how quickly and efficiently I could complete it. I’m not 100% sure where I developed this trait, but it has been nothing but great for my development. I HATE wasting time.
How old are you?
How many hours a day do you sleep?
How many hours a day do you work/attend school?
Do you set time aside each day to focus on yourself? Whether it be fitness related, self development time or just personal time?
Did you know:
The average American between the ages of 34-49 spends upwards of 33 hours watching TV a week! According to data from Nielsen that suggests TV timeincreases the older we get. The average American watches more than five hours of live television every day. No wonder so many people don’t have time to accomplish their goals, that time is being consumed with nonsense.
Let’s Get Real:
Q: How many hours a day are you filling your mind with worthless or negative information that doesn’t pertain to your goals that you have wrote out in the previous emails? This doesn’t just pertain to TV, but social media as well! How many hours do you spend scrolling through social media platforms just to waste time? Be honest, this is all about accountability and helping you become more efficient.
Leaving the excuses at the door.
Mastering your time: This is a trait that can be found in nearly all successful people. The ability to master their time. See, time is the ultimate equalizer. Every single person reading this email right now is granted the exact same amount of hours in the day as the next person, so there can’t be any finger pointing saying, “Bob has more time than me so he’s able to focus on his goals more.” Now, stop! I already know what is about to happen. There are going to be multiple people who read this and say “ Well I have a family, another kid on the way, a job and a long list of other duties that fill X amount of time in my day. Younger adults don’t have these obligations.” Trust me, I get it! I have a family too, multiple businesses and a honey to do list that stretches a few feet long. But that is simply just an excuse, whether you are willing to accept it in this moment or not. The world doesn’t owe you shit! These are the cards that you’ve been dealt. You can play your hand and get most out of this life or you can sit back and complain for the next 45 plus years how you NEVER HAD TIME.
-What excuses am I making that are limiting me from my full potential?
-How many hours a day are you granting for yourself to accomplish your goals and reach your full potential?
–MASTERING YOUR TIME:
As I had mentioned above, nearly all successful people I’ve come in contact with have the ability to be extremely efficient with the hours in the day they’re given. Whether this means the ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently, ability to lead others where they help to complete tasks or multitasking. Having these traits will lead to more production, utilizing the time that has been given to us! Below I’ve made a list of a few ways I structure a typical day to help myself master my time. I strongly believe if you don’t have a plan leading into the day you’ll be much more likely to find yourself off track, wasting hours upon hours doing virtually nothing that pertains to your success.
-CREATE A ‘TO DO’ LIST EVERYDAY:
I make the list challenging to complete, yet still practical. I find if I never complete the To Do list I consistently feel defeated. This is why I create a practical list that I can achieve if I work really hard to. As I progress throughout the day I check mark each task when completed. This gives me a sense of accomplishment, pride and keeps me disciplined for the next task at hand.
-Breaking my day down into times:
This may seem a little over the top, but don’t turn away just yet! This has led me to becoming a true master of my time. For every task I have to complete I write an approx. time that it will take me to complete that task or that group of tasks. This creates a sense of urgency to complete each task then get into the next!
-6:45a.m – 7:10a.m Get ready for work (brush teeth, pack lunch, do hair, GO)
-7:10- 7:45 a.m Commute to work, get Starbucks ha
-7:45-8:00 a.m Settle in, review to do list, set up plans of action.
-Start into task and time each. If the time carries over that is OK. Not every day you will hit the times you have planned or reach all of your TO DO’s, this is just a guide to work off of. I find it to work for me at least 90% of the time. THAT’S A WIN in my book!
-Task & Approx. time will take
-Task & Approx. time will take
-Task & Approx. time will take
-Plan tomorrow to do list & Approx. time will take
-“Reward” or “Personal time.”
This is typically 1-2 hours of my day. This will vary depending where you are currently at in life. At one time I was lucky to have 30 mins. But there will be times where you will simply have to knuckle up and fight life where you are. Or remain the same, in the same breath, I believe in a LIFE BALANCE. Each day I factor personal time into my day (typically at the end of the day.) This helps keep my sanity. I’m what some call a “Workaholic” This is not a bad thing, but I’ve come to realize it’s not always the best thing either. Both for my sanity and for the relationships I have in my life. Without life balance I’ve found it to be a TICKING TIME BOMB TO SELF DESTRUCTION!
LET’S TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR DAY:
Below create a To Do list. Include your typical work day and each adventure you get into on a typical day. Then start to create your TO DO list around your mandatory objectives. Beside each, select an approximate time frame it will take to complete each. Start looking to how you can create more time during your typical day. See where you can shave time off of your typical day to day objectives as well as where you can create more time within the 24 hours you’ve been given.
Do this every day for the next 3 weeks. You will begin to notice a greater sense of urgency, productiveness will increase, as well as a greater feeling of accomplishment! Let’s get the momentum rolling in our favor!
TODAY’S TO DO LIST:
I would love to hear back from you and help you master your time and life! 2018 is our year! #TheGrowthSeries
