The fitness industry has evolved into a place where women are being judged on how their bodies look instead of how their bodies can perform. Which is why most women don’t look towards powerlifting when wanting to change their lifestyle because of all the misconceptions about powerlifting:
– You’ll get too bulky
– You’ll gain unnecessary weight
as A Female Powerlifter, unfortunately you will be scrutinized by men/women with their ignorant opinions. Luckily we are strong enough to get past that and look at the reasons why we should powerlift!
– It will fulfil your competitive drive
For anyone with any competitive drive, powerlifting will work for them because it’s not at all about you against someone else. It’s about you vs you, you’re working on being the strongest version of yourself.
– The community
Powerlifters are the most humbling athletes I have ever met. The community pushes you to be your strongest, and they give you the knowledge you need to get through your training and then you pass on the knowledge to others. It’s an endless cycle.
– The feeling of empowerment
When I first started powerlifting my deadlift max was 185 now I can deadlift 300+, as the months go by and as you see the weight increase the extraordinary feeling you get as when you realize you are pushing/pulling that weight all on your own is amazing!
– Relationship with food will improve
Powerlifting really helps you lock in FOOD = FUEL, you can not starve yourself leading into a meet and expecting yourself to perform to the best of your abilities. With no fuel your performance will suffer from it.
Though women shouldn’t be judged by the way they look, powerlifting will not make your physique suffer. In my experience it as only helped me improve, the stronger you are the better you look and you’ll start to feel a lot more comfortable in your own skin.
– You will feel like a badass while doing it!
When you start to hit numbers you never thought you’d be able to hit before, or start working with weight that used to be your max, you’ll feel an incredible sense of accomplishment. It’s amazing what our bodies can do, if you dedicate yourself to something.
My best 3 lifts in my last meet, all moving surprisingly faster than expected! The joy in my heart couldn’t be explained!
I would’ve never started powerlifting if I didnt get inspired by other women doing so, the more women to powerlift the more women will start to believe they can too.
