Throughout my time training I have always done better if their has been someone there with me. Yes, you can get a quality workout in by one’s self but there is no substitution for a crew or partner.
As for me, I have preferred a crew over just one partner. A lot of times one person gets set in their ways and you always wind up getting lost in your training. Meaning that you’re not always getting that push you always need. The hardest part about training is just getting there. If you get there and are pushed to the limits by just one individual, consider them special. I have been lucky enough to experience this a few times.
The 2nd type of person is someone who is as big as Texas. When you put another plate on the pull down machine and you finally think you are getting strong, they do it for 30 and humble you quickly. This guy will push you more than you will ever believe because I don’t care who you are, we are all trying to compete on one level or another. So if he’s doing sets of 30 then in my mind I’m trying to do 31.
The 3rd, and final type of person, is someone that scares the living shit out of you and if they say you’re gonna push 5 plates today, then I’ll be damned if I wasn’t pushing 5 plates! This guy is able to bring your testicular fortitude to the front and center just by looking into your eyes. No way in hell was I ever gonna let this guy think I was soft. No matter what!
So these are the types of individuals that always were able to help me keep my training at a very high level. Even today at an older age I’m always looking for someone to not only motivate me but be able to PUSH me close to the limit on a daily basis. What was paramount though was that these individuals showed up daily and enjoyed nearly dying to get to the next level, day in and day out.
For all of you that were there to sweat with me daily on a regular basis in the past; I’m proud to have trained with you all and just keep FOREVER PUSHIN!
