Do you know that 70% of Americans wake up every day to go to a job they hate? Most people go to college, settle on a career that pays well with good benefits, join the rat race, live pay check to pay check and live for the weekends while dreading every Monday. Now doesn’t that sound like a miserable way to spend your time here on earth? Is your true calling to punch a time card and waste your hours away at a place you hate? I sure as hell know that’s not for me. I may only be 17 years old, but that doesn’t stop me from learning and observing from those around me. Young or old, there is something to take away from everyone and sadly the most repetitive lesson I see in adults is that so many of them never followed their dreams and ended up settling for less.
Now imagine a world where everyone pursued their passion and did what they loved. The world would probably be a happier place and productivity would be much higher. Although this sounds great on paper, I’m very aware that so many people don’t know what they’re passionate about. So the simple question becomes “what could you not live without?” There lies your true passion.
The purpose of this article isn’t to make you quit your job and jump head first in pursuit of your passion. However, if your like my big brother, Zach Homol, and drop everything to chase a vision that only you can see, then I commend you for that. The reason I write this is to hopefully open a few eyes and make it known that it’s okay to go after a dream that no one else sees, it’s okay to be different and it’s okay to be happy and love what you do.
We as humans are meant for so much more. So why sell yourself short?
